A look at key conversations from MedTech Innovation Expo, highlighting why early testing and validation remain critical and often overlooked in the medical device journey.

Medtech Innovation Expo 2026

Last week, Test Labs exhibited at the MedTech Innovation Expo at the NEC which brought together many medical device organisations. From the initial conceptualisation of the medical device towards regulatory support and testing validations where we come in, we had the chance to meet many innovators who explored each step of their medical device journey at the event.

What Does Innovation Look Like?

A noticeable theme this year was the increase in innovation and ideas amongst delegates. We had conversations with many who were interested to learn more, understand what the current medical device industry looks and how this is shaping the future of healthcare in the UK. Conversations varied from initial ideas of creating a medical device to questions about the process of launching a medical device into market, and how important validation and  testing are when it comes to launching a medical device. Testing and validation can have the potential to influence a medical device, from its conceptualisation to development. This was a common topic in our conversations that innovation expands beyond your initial research but how your medical device faces regulatory and compliance standards.

When Are You Ready for Medical Device Testing?

This was a frequently asked question for us, and it’s often one that is left until the last minute for many. Having early testing partnerships and considering the necessary medical device testing and validation requirements you need from the beginning truly shapes your device’s journey. Not only does it speed up your launch to market, but it can also potentially contribute to your research and development stage which is vital for start-ups especially. We clarified misunderstandings and misconceptions many early-stage innovators tend to have when it comes to medical device testing, and how having a holistic approach can transform your perspective and research.

From Inspiration to Implementation

When it comes to medical device testing and compliance, it’s vital to consider this early. Do your research and attend events like the MedTech Innovation Expo! Seeing your ideas come to life through every conversation you have is truly the best place to start, and we saw this at the event. It’s always best to take that first leap and explore this early on and see where one conversation can take you.
