We invite you to learn more about Joseph.

What do you do at Test Labs?

As a Laboratory Scientist at Test Labs, my main responsibility is to execute various testing protocols to ensure that medical devices meet strict safety and performance standards. This includes conducting microbiological tests, biocompatibility, material compatibility, bioburden tests, cleaning efficacy tests, disinfection efficacy tests, and sterilisation validation. Additionally, I provide training support, develop standard operating procedures (SOPs), and ensure compliance with Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) standards.

Where did your interest in science stem from?

My interest in science began with a fascination for how things work at a molecular level, particularly in biology and chemistry. I have always been curious about the invisible processes that govern life and health. This curiosity to understand the ‘why’ and ‘how’ sparked a lifelong pursuit of scientific knowledge, ultimately leading me to laboratory science, where I could explore these processes hands-on.

Have you always wanted to be a Laboratory Scientist?

Becoming a Laboratory Scientist has always been a personal goal of mine. The prospect of contributing to healthcare innovation and ensuring the safety and effectiveness of medical devices is incredibly motivating for me. I have always been drawn to a lab environment where precision, critical thinking, and collaboration are essential.

What would your advice be for someone thinking of becoming a Laboratory Scientist?

First, be prepared for continuous learning, and cultivate a willingness to ask questions. Embrace every opportunity to learn from your colleagues, and don’t be afraid to make mistakes, as long as you learn from them. Secondly, develop strong analytical and problem-solving skills. The laboratory is a dynamic environment that demands critical thinking and attention to detail. Staying organised and consistently following protocols are essential for producing reliable results.

What are you looking forward to most about working at Test Labs?

I am particularly excited to continue contributing to Test Labs’ reputation for excellence in medical device testing. The team at Test Labs is incredibly supportive, allowing me to expand my technical skills and make a direct impact on the safety and efficacy of innovative medical technologies entering the market.

What’s one thing you wish MedTech companies understood better about laboratory testing?

Laboratory testing is not just a regulatory requirement; it’s essential for ensuring that products are safe for the market. This data needs to be carefully analysed by an expert. At Test Labs, we examine and evaluate many variables, and we want companies to appreciate that our testing is conducted with rigor.

What do you get up to when you’re not testing and analysing medical devices?

I have a strong interest in playing video games, watching soccer, and exploring nature. I enjoy travelling with my family whenever possible. Additionally, I’ve developed a habit of reading, which helps me gain a deeper understanding of my work. I also love listening to a variety of music genres.
