Matthew O’Donnell is an experienced regulatory leader with over 15 years at BSI, one of the leading EU medical device Notified Bodies. As Associate Global Head of the Orthopaedic and Dental team, he has guided scheme managers, technical and clinical reviewers, and manufacturers through the complexities of the EU MDR transition. During his time at BSI, he has progressed through a variety of roles, including scheme manager, technical specialist, clinical reviewer, lead QMS assessor, decision maker, and technical team manager positions.
Following postdoctoral positions at Clemson University and Imperial College London, Matt began his career in biomaterials manufacturing and R&D at an Imperial College London spin out (founded by Dame Molly Stevens and Prof. Robert Hill), developing ceramic and glass biomaterials, that achieved CE marking as a novel synthetic bone graft. He has authored multiple scientific publications, book chapters, and patents, and holds an MEng from the University of Sheffield and a PhD from the University of Nottingham in Materials Science and Engineering.
